Narrow for tight road tyres and wide for looser MTB & Hybrid tyres

A good tip to avoid bending or even snapping these:
Make sure you have worked all the tyre bead off of the rim crotchet on the side you intend to lever off before attempting to remove the tyre.
This gives the tyre bead enough flexibility for the tyre to be removed easily.
